Essential Workplace Communication Skills


Based on national standards and best practices in the field, this program covers the critical communication and problem-solving competencies needed to succeed in the workplace. 1) Active Listening: Learn perspective taking, paraphrasing, validating the speaker and asking the right questions. 2) Assertive Speaking: Practice using I statements; separating fact from opinion; naming and owning feelings; and, expressing what you mean effectively without offending others. 3) Teamwork: Promote teamwork by defining the spirit of service, the principle of synergy, the attitude of gratitude, and how to give and receive feedback. 4) Work Styles: Identify your work style and others’ work styles and learn how to work cooperatively with other styles. 5) Conflict Styles: Identify your conflict style and how to apply constructive conflict resolution strategies. 6) Problem-Solving: Learn and practice a six-step problem solving method and apply the steps to a real problem that occurs in the workplace.
