[NEW!] Tibetan Sacred Art with the Venerable Lama Gyaltsen
In this class you will learn how to draw the Eight Auspicious Symbols in the Tibetan tradition by either using a stencil grid or by drawing free hand. The origin of the Eight Auspicious Symbols date back over two thousand years. They are often illustrated on banners, flags and other material as a gift or offering to signify good fortune, prosperity, abundance, and expansion. The eight symbols include: parasol, golden fishes, treasure vase, lotus, conch shell, endless knot, victory banner, and the golden wheel. Their meaning can be translated as a spiritual path or simply as exquisite objects of art. You will also learn the traditional method of drawing the Buddha of Wisdom, Manjushri, as a thangka.
Lama Gyaltsen is the resident teacher at the Maui Dharma Center. He has been a Tibetan Buddhist monk for over 40 years. He studied in a monastic setting in India, and is learned in Eastern philosophies, language, Buddhist logic and the arts which include sacred painting, dance, music and sculpture. 258F11 / $159
